Visit Ft. Frederica Historic Site

Ft. Frederica was once a thriving military town on the shores of the Frederica River on St. Simons Island Ga.

At the visitors center pick up a map that shows how the town was laid out.

Then wander the "roads" of Ft. Frederica and imagine the harsh life its inhabitants lived.

Only a few were lucky enough to live in the homes that these tabby ruins left behind.

Most of the soldiers lived in huts like these.

At the end of Broad Street on the banks of the river are the ruins of actual fort.

Can you guess what this was used for?

Ft. Frederica is still an active archeological site.

You can see the foundation of another building being excavated currently.

This is just one of the amazing things to do on St. Simons Island. Swipe up for more.
