The best RV resorts along the coast of Georgia

We’re highlighting 7 resorts starting just across the state line from Florida and heading north all the way to Tybee Island near Savannah.

Walkabout Camp & RV Park

A truly unique place, Walkabout Camp brings a taste of Australia and the Nebraska farmland to south Georgia! Their goal is to “provide an atmosphere where one day is not enough,” and they have done just that.

Located in Woodbine, just across the state line from Florida, you’ll find a treasure of amenities to entertain guests of any age. (check out the article Fun Things to Do with Kids in St. Marys). Of course, you’ll find everything you need at Walkabout, like laundry facilities, showers, etc., but there is so much more.

To keep you and your furry friends active, you’ll find pickleball/basketball courts, a full indoor gym, nature trails, a dog park run, sand volleyball, and a playground.

There is a bar (open on weekends) and a fabulous resort style pool that’s heated. Purely for fun, there is a petting zoo with chickens, goats, pigs, a mini pony, and a highland cow.

While you’re in the area, you don’t want to miss the unique opportunity to visit Cumberland Island. It’s accessible only by ferry from St. Marys, Georgia. You can book a walking tour here.

Walkabout Camp & RV Park has easy access from I-95 at Exit 7. Also in Woodbine in the southernmost stop on the Coastal Georgia BBQ Trail. Check that out too!

You’ll find it to be thoughtfully planned and sitting on a picturesque small lake that’s made even better with the beautiful boardwalk around it. You can even fish from the banks if that’s your thing.

Southern Retreat and Coastal Georgia RV Parks are featured in the article Brunswick Georgia Campgrounds, but these are the two that we feel most fit the description of “RV Resort.”

Front of restaurant at Southern Retreat RV Park.

Southern Retreat is a true gem in this area and has a loyal following of regular guests. One of the best features is the onsite restaurant and bar – Fish Tales Pub and Grill. Not only is it a favorite of the RV crowd, but locals love it, too!

As with all of the RV resorts here, the typical full hookups, onsite laundry room, and shower facilities are available, but the extras are what makes Southern Retreat special.

Besides a stocked catch-and-release fish pond, you’ll find the following amenities:

  • Beautiful swimming pool
  • Pavilions, grills, and a community firepit – perfect for group gatherings
  • Dedicated high-speed modem rentals available
  • Cabin rentals for those who want a break from the RV
  • RV rentals if you don’t have your own

Insiders Tip: For a truly unique experience you do not want to want to miss Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island. It’s an other-worldly type place that you’ll never forget. Check here for the full guide to Driftwood Beach. You can even stay at the Jekyll Island Campground, walking distance from the beach!

Savannah South KOA

Continue heading north on Interstate 95 until you reach Exit 87 in Richmond Hill. This is where you’ll find Savannah South KOA, which is just about 25 minutes from the historic district of Savannah.

Naturally, you’ll find plenty of upgraded RV sites with concrete pads or patios and extras to keep even the furry members of your family happy – like a dog park.
