Cafe’ Frederica
Let’s start with the hidden gem, Cafe’ Frederica. This is one of our favorites and being just a mile from our house we eat breakfast (and lunch) here often. It’s open every day from 7:30am until 2:00pm.
My favorites are the great breakfast sandwich options. They can be made with a homemade biscuit or an English muffin. My mother-in-law goes the sweet route with either pancakes or their to-die-for cinnamon rolls, and Sara loves a bagel with smoked salmon. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu here.
They have counter seating which is a good option when there’s a wait for a table, which is often, or if you’re eating alone.
Insider tip: Parking can be limited right in front, but if you drive around back of the building there’s ample parking with a walkway leading to the cafe’.
Join the Facebook group Coastal Georgia Foodies! It’s where everyone with an interest in Coastal Georgia food can share their favorite places to eat, food events, resources for buying local and restaurant news.
Mallery Street Cafe’
Located in the pier village Mallery Street Cafe’ will be an easy walk if you’re staying anywhere in the village area. They have chef-driven local cuisine that features everything from classics like biscuits and gravy to eggs benedict and a variety of omelets.
This is just great food with great service and they’ll serve you breakfast until 2:00p.m. (Just in case you stayed out late visiting some of the best bars on St. Simons). Weekend mornings there is usually a wait, but it’s well worth it.
Chubs Diner
This diner is a casual fare favorite with locals, and for good reason. They have fast, excellent service, and dependable menu options like a breakfast burrito on a flour tortilla, as well as southern favorites including stone ground grits, country ham and more.
Chubs has a good selection of healthy breakfast choices such as a granola bowl and cauliflower hash browns.
Breakfast is always available when they’re open and that’s every day from 7:30am to 2pm.
ECHO
Yes, it is hotel breakfast, but the King & Prince Golf & Beach Resort isn’t just any old hotel! First of all there are the ocean views. This is the only oceanfront dining for breakfast available on the island. The patio is just amazing.
Besides the view, there are a few outstanding menu items. The seafood omelet has fresh wild Georgia shrimp, crabmeat and gouda cheese. For a real southern touch you’ll want to try the praline French toast, and it’s hard to go wrong with the loaded breakfast burrito.
Sunday brunch is served until 3pm and you can add bottomless mimosas or bloody marys for $20 per person.
Palmer’s Village Cafe
Ah, Palmer’s… Located in the heart of the village (what one would consider the Saint Simons Island city center) this jewel of a restaurant is open 7 days a week 7:30am until 2pm. Breakfast is always available, with lunch options ready starting at 11 o’clock.
The menu is the perfect combination of southern charm, fresh seafood from local waters and creativity. Standout selections include omelets with names like The Hooch, The Local and The Coastal Delight as well as Buddy’s Banana Pudding Pancakes.
You have got to try their signature condiment, House Tomato Jam. They describe it like this: “country feel meets uptown flavor.” You can even get a jar to take home.
There’s virtually always a wait on weekends at Palmer’s (and many times during the week), but you know what that means. They’re owned by the same folks who run Porch. It sits just around the corner behind a white picket fence and serves a fine version of Nashville hot chicken.

Wake Up Coffee Company
Looking for a good cup of coffee? You’ve found the place. Wake Up says that their coffee blends are “thoughtfully sourced, roasted daily and incredibly delicious.” We’d agree with that.
This fun coffee shop has quickly made a name for itself among locals and visitors. Besides the awesome coffee there is a good selection of lighter bite breakfast items like scones, muffins, avocado toast and a parfait with fresh berries. They’re open 7 days a week from 7am to 7pm. Two more locations are across the causeway in Brunswick.
Dulce Dough Bakery
Known for their amazing doughnuts, but everything at Dulce Dough Bakery is outstanding! They also serve quiche, sticky buns and biscuits. The lines are long, especially on weekends, but there’s a reason for that.
Our favorite here? The amazing brioche donuts and the Earl Grey flavor. The flavors change daily though so you never get bored with the same old choices. Dulce Dough is located in a cute little building that looks like someone’s home on Frederica Road, just past the roundabout where Southern Soul BBQ is located.
Open 7am to 2pm Wednesday through Sunday.
Sandy Bottom Bagels
This cool bagel shop is located in Retreat Village (the Winn Dixie shopping center) and is open every day but Sunday, 6:30am to 2:00pm. Besides the New York style bagels they have farm fresh eggs, a great selection of flavored cream cheeses and they’ll make you a bagel sandwich fit for a king! Sandy Bottom proudly serves Wake Up Coffee, too.
Sweet Mama’s
Also located in Retreat Village, Sweet Mama’s is a personal favorite of ours. It’s a bakery deli serving breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Saturday from 7am to 2pm.
The signature item on their menu is called a “pork pop”. They’re bite-sized savory biscuit-type treats with bacon and sausage. Hard to describe and even harder to resist.
Weekend Brunch Buffets on St. Simons
If weekend brunch is your thing, there are a few options on the island. Each has its own personality and favorite dishes.
Sago at Sea Palms Resort
This country club style restaurant is in the same mid-island area as Bennie’s, but it is open to the public. The Sago Sunday brunch buffet at the Sea Palms Resort features certain standards each week, plus a variety of dishes that change.
You’ll always find breakfast favorites, a salad bar with charcuterie, a made-to-order omelet station, and fried chicken. Each week, there are additional entrees, side dishes, and desserts. The brunch buffet is open 10:30am to 2:00pm.
Coastal Kitchen
Brunch at this spot with amazing marina views is served on Saturday from 10am-3pm and Sunday from 11am until 3pm. You’ll order from the menu here with selections like crab cake Benedict, lobster omelettes, and French toast topped with pecans.
They sometimes have live music for brunch, but you’ll need to call ahead to confirm. We love coming here for any meal, and you’ll find Coastal Kitchen also listed as one of the 20 restaurants you need to try on St. Simons Island.
To wrap it up, St. Simons Island has a good number of places that serve the most important meal of the day. No matter where you are in the Golden Isles, you may want to hop on that causeway and head over to SSI for brunch or breakfast.
Brunswick, Jekyll Island, or even the quaint coastal town of Darien are just a short drive away.
